NASA is reviving its 'Send Your Name to Mars' program for July 2026

From the Perseverance rover landing on Mars to Elon Musk's plans to send one million humans to Mars by 2050, the red planet is getting a lot of attention. However, even if the astronaut's life isn't for you, there might still be a chance for you to leave your mark in space.

NASA has launched an initiative for you to "send your name to Mars" aboard a spacecraft. The Perseverance rover also carried the names of 10,932,295 people that were etched onto "fingernail-sized chips".

The success of the initiative has led NASA to repeat it and this time the spacecraft in question hasn't been confirmed yet but will fly "on a future NASA mission to Mars in the mid-2020s," although the boarding pass specifies a travel date of July 2026. As with the Perseverance rover, the spacecraft will be launched from Cape Canaveral at the Florida Air Force Station and will land at the Jezero crater on Mars.

Sending your name to Mars is a very simple process — all you have to do is go to the website, fill in your name, country, postal code, and email, and then you're all set for your spaceflight.
